Aimed to supporting dedicated student scholars that are pursuing careers in professional medical professions. The grant is administered locally in Central Pennsylvania.

JMS Professional Health Care Education Grant Foundation (the “Foundation”) operates as a grant-making foundation. All grants provided by the Foundation shall further the Foundation’s general mission of supporting education and careers in various health care fields. All grants made by the Foundation to individuals shall be used by such individuals to further the individual’s educational endeavors in the health care industry (e.g., test preparation costs, entrance exam fees, travel for exams, moving costs to serve rural areas).
Physicians in the Lewistown Rural Family Medicine Program are encouraged to apply for grants to support family education, expenses of continuing education / conferences, and even transportation to off-site clinical opportunities. The Foundation seeks to assist physicians at any point of their residency, but recognizes that beginning a program has many time sensitive activities. We suggest that physicians should seek grants for use during their second and third years of the program. For this reason, the Foundation requests that grant request be received between January 1 and July 1, prior to the beginning of year 2 and year 3.
We welcome applications at anytime during the year. Decisions will be made by:
August 1 and December 1
Grants will only be awarded once every year.

Grant Eligibility
To be eligible for JMS Grant Foundation grants, applicants must meet certain criteria. The JMS Professional Healthcare Education Grant Foundation aims to award funding to qualified individuals that are seeking careers in the medical fields.

The Selection Committee does require:

- reference from a current professor, or teacher, or employer. This can be sent under separate cover to the Foundation. Please alert the Foundation that the reference is coming under separate cover by mail or email.
- your CV or resume,
- academic (or High School) transcripts,
- current mailing address.

Requirement Item #3
The Selection Committee does not require an essay to make our determination. However, a one-page document detailing your aspirations, challenges, and community activities are valuable to the Selection Committee. Learning more about our candidates helps in the decision-making process.
How Your Application will be Considered
The Foundation’s committee determines the awarding of grant funding on a case-by-case basis. Primary factors include:
- Is the applicant seeking education and licensure as a medical doctor (MD or DO), Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice RN, Physical or Occupational Therapist, or Pharmacist?
- Does the individual meet the eligibility requirements?
- Did the individual submit all requirement materials?
- Is there a demonstrated financial need for advanced education?
While it is not a requirement, the Foundation does prioritize individuals who intend to form, and/or practice in the Juniata County, Mifflin County, or Snyder County areas due to the lack of qualified health care professionals currently servicing the area.
